This Giglio deal has serious potential for the kingdom.
There are several TREMENDOUS articles I would encourage any serious follower of Jesus to read regarding the whole Louie Giglio Presidential Inauguration Brouhaha that emerged this week.
This one by Ed Stetzer; this one by Russell Moore; and this one by Al Mohler are all three thought-provoking and helpful for the serious Christian. Mohler nails the importance of this matter, saying: “While seeking to be gentle in spirit and ruthlessly Gospel-centered in speaking of any sin, we cannot cease to speak of sin as sin. To do so is not only to deny the authority of Scripture, not only to reject the moral consensus of the saints, but it undermines the Gospel itself. The Gospel makes no sense, and is robbed of its saving power, if sin is denied as sin.”
These articles are, in my opinion, frightening and ‘spot on’ as it relates to religious freedom for the believer in the USA.
BUT (and this is a BIG BUT!) can I PLEASE ask: “Can’t all this – in a sense – be a really good thing?”
Think about it: Just last week over 60,000 college age students gathered in Atlanta to worship Jesus at a movement called Passion. Who’s the mastermind that got all these college students stirred up about Jesus? Louie. Oh yeah, God’s been using him to stir ’em up for almost 2 decades now. That’s a bunch of crazy college kids.
Have you been around college students recently? They don’t care. They are crazy for Jesus. They’ll do anything. . . Seriously. . . they don’t play. They actually think they can end slavery. Yeah, they really do. Countless of ’em are signing up left and right to go to the hardest places on earth with the Gospel. Seriously, they are.
This weekend at the church where I pastor we are having what is called a ‘Reality Check’ weekend. It’s a Friday-Sunday deal where college students come and lead high school students in Bible Studies and they get all crazy for Jesus. I. LOVE. IT. Been around a high school student lately that’s nuts about Christ? Yeah – they’ll do anything for the Name.
My point? Watch out North America. There’s a whole bunch of young Jesus-Lovers out there who love you enough to do anything to help you be set free. I imagine that having government authorities keep one of their favorite people’s mouth’s shut will only open theirs even wider . . . and louder.
Oh, and by the way – don’t forget: Jesus said it would be like this right about now; AND He only used 12 to turn the world upside down.
So, yes, we desperately need to know the ramifications of this. But it’s not all ‘the sky is falling’ stuff. This Giglio deal has serious potential for the kingdom.
