Wisdom for Your Wednesday

18 Poverty and disgrace come to him who ignores instruction,
but whoever heeds reproof is honored. . .
20 Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise,
but the companion of fools will suffer harm

Proverbs 13:18, 20

God designed us to need others. We cannot be complete people without the help of others making us complete. Did you catch that? Being a ‘whole’ person does not occur in isolation. We need others.

Whoever heeds reproof is honored. You cannot heed reproof without someone ‘reproofing’ you. In fact, you cannot live an honorable life without being reproved.

Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise. You cannot walk with the wise unless there are wise people around you. In fact, you cannot become wise without walking with wise people.

Wisdom says that living an honorable and wise life requires others. It doesn’t just ‘happen.’ One doesn’t become complete without others.

SO. . . . .

Who in your life have you designated as your ‘reproofer’? Who have you given permission to speak ‘gut-level-honest’ truth to you? It’s interesting, isn’t it? How humility leads to honor.

Who in your life is making you biblically wise? Who are you watching that makes you better? Who are you talking to and asking questions to grow in wisdom? What books are you reading? articles? blog posts? Saturating yourself with wise people makes you wise.

Want poverty, disgrace, and harm? Me neither. Intentionally and carefully answer the above questions with real names and real people. Wisdom demands it.

This is really good advice and information! Lucky me, I still have a mother who can reproof me like the judge she once was and more important, like the good mom she was and still is at 97. I wonder today if parents teach their children that they are NOT better than anyone else? Everyone doesn’t always win a prize, but even when one does, humility is best. A good judge or reproofer (a new word) is fair to everyone. and Mother can still humble me with a word or two!

For Bible help, I am fortunate to have really good Sunday school teachers and an excellent minister who preaches from the Bible.
