Wisdom for Your Wednesday

“There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”

Proverbs 12:18

What’s the point of a sword? What’s the point of “thrusting” a sword?

Intense pain.

Limb severing.

Brutal death.

Total annihilation.

According to Proverbs, speaking rashly towards someone has the exact same effect. In other words, what AND how you speak matters.

Speaking rashly to your spouse is like thrusting a sword into their flesh.

Speaking rashly to your child is similar to cutting limbs from their body.

Rash words destroy. They injure. They remove parts that are needed for life.

Let this Proverb remind each of us – especially those of us with spouse’s and children: Sticks and Stones Can Break Our Bones, Yes – But Words Can Actually Kill.

Rash words are like sword thrusts.

Wisdom? It speaks in order to heal. The wise person has the exact opposite effect. When a wise person speaks, healing happens.

How would you describe yourself? Do your words harm or heal?

What’s gonna come out of your mouth today?
